Meet Maria Pohlmann
Coming Full Circle
For Maria Pohlmann, joining Meyer Chiropractic, Acupuncture & Nutrition feels a little like coming home. Born and raised right here in Hermann, Maria grew up coming to our office as a patient with her family. Years later, she is now on the other side of the experience—helping care for the same community that raised her.
Having been a patient herself, Maria already knew what made the office special. She had experienced the personal attention our team gives each patient and appreciated the way people are treated as individuals rather than simply another name on the schedule. When the opportunity arose to join the team as a Chiropractic Assistant, it turned out to be a natural fit.
A Heart for Healthcare
Maria knew early on that she wanted to work in healthcare. She attended EMT school and went on to work as a Patient Care Technician at Hermann Area District Hospital for several years. Thoseexperiences gave her the opportunity to care for others while continuing to learn about something that has always fascinated her—the human body. While Maria valued her time in traditional healthcare, she wasn't convinced that EMS was where she wanted to build her long-term career. She knew she wanted to continue helping people; she simply hadn't found the place that felt quite right yet.
Then, a conversation between her mom and Christina Meyer opened a door Maria hadn't considered before: chiropractic.
Learning to Listen to the Body
What Maria discovered at Meyer Chiropractic was an approach to healthcare that closely matched many of the things she already believed.
She is fascinated by how much the human body is capable of and believes there is tremendous value in learning to listen to what it is telling us. To Maria, helping someone feel better doesn't always have to begin with medication. Sometimes, the body already has many of the tools it needs—we simply have to understand how to support it.
That philosophy, combined with a busy work environment, a close-knit team, and the opportunity to help people every day, made Meyer Chiropractic feel like a place where Maria could find her niche in healthcare.
Faith, Family & Home
As one of eleven children, Maria knows a thing or two about being part of a busy household! She is the daughter of Kevin and Theresa Pohlmann, and family continues to be one of the most important parts of her life. Some of her favorite moments are the simple ones spent with her nieces and nephews.
Her Catholic faith is equally important to who she is. Maria is a member of St. George Parish here in Hermann and has a special admiration for St. Joan of Arc. She admires Joan's courage, conviction, and willingness to stand firmly for what she believed was right.
In her own life, Maria tries to follow a simple principle: treat others the way you would want to be treated. It is a value that carries naturally into the way she cares for the patients she meets each day.
Horses, Copper & the Simple Things
When Maria isn't at the office, there is a good chance you'll find her outside. She enjoys going for walks and riding Western with her brother. One of her favorite parts of working with horses is developing the connection between horse and rider—the kind of relationship that only develops once trust has been earned.
She also spends plenty of time with Copper, her Chihuahua-Beagle mix. Copper may only have one eye after an unfortunate run-in with a sheepdog, but that certainly hasn't stopped him from being a beloved member of the family.
Maria's other favorites include sushi, springtime, and Easter—which happens to combine two things she loves: her favorite season and a holiday deeply rooted in her faith. When it comes to movies, Pride & Prejudice is hard to beat.
Finding Her Place
Maria may not have originally pictured chiropractic as part of her healthcare journey, but sometimes the right path is the one you don't expect.
From growing up as a patient in our office to now helping care for the people who walk through its doors, Maria's story has come full circle. She is excited to continue learning, find her place within the Meyer Chiropractic family, and help patients feel better through an approach to healthcare that genuinely aligns with what she values.
