Alpha-Gal Syndrome Treatment at Meyer Chiropractic

At Meyer Chiropractic, we take an integrated approach to supporting patients with Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS). Rather than focusing only on avoidance of triggers, our goal is to support immune regulation, reduce symptom burden, and guide patients through a structured, individualized care process.

Dr. Douglas Meyer developed this protocol based on clinical experience, continuing education, and an increasing number of Alpha-Gal cases seen in mid-Missouri. Many patients seek care after delayed diagnosis, ongoing symptoms, or limited improvement with avoidance-based recommendations alone.

We have seen a significant rise in Alpha-Gal cases across mid-Missouri, including patients traveling from surrounding areas for more specialized care. If you have been struggling with unexplained reactions, a delayed diagnosis, or a treatment plan focused primarily on avoidance, this approach offers a more structured path forward.

Our Integrated Treatment Approach

Treatment is delivered through a structured 6-week protocol tailored to each patient’s history, symptoms, and laboratory findings.

Step 1 — Initial Consultation

Your first visit with Dr. Meyer is approximately 60 minutes. This appointment includes a comprehensive evaluation rather than a brief intake.

We review:

  • Full health and symptom history

  • Timing and pattern of reactions

  • Potential tick exposure history

  • Dietary and environmental triggers

  • Physical examination findings

  • Initial acupuncture treatment (when appropriate)

This visit is designed to establish a complete clinical picture before initiating care.

Step 2 — Laboratory Testing

Baseline evaluation is supported through targeted laboratory testing.

This may include:

  • Alpha-gal-specific IgE testing for or beef, pork, and lamb

  • Total IgE levels

  • Additional labs based on individual presentation

Testing is used to support clinical evaluation and track changes over time throughout the treatment process.

Initial labs are typically drawn within the first month of care.

Step 3 — Individualized Treatment

Each Alpha-Gal patient presents differently, so treatment is tailored to individual symptom patterns, lab results, and response to care.

Most patients begin a structured 6-week Meyer Method protocol that may include:

Acupuncture (body points): Used to support nervous system regulation and modulate inflammatory and histamine responses.

Auricular (ear) acupuncture: A complementary approach often used alongside body acupuncture to support immune regulation.

Elimination dietary guidance: Removal of mammalian products and common hidden sources such as gelatin to reduce immune activation and symptom triggers.

Nutritional support: Whole-food based recommendations focused on digestive support, inflammation balance, and overall metabolic health.

Lifestyle and exposure review: Guidance on environmental and dietary exposures that may contribute to symptom persistence.

Ongoing symptom tracking: Progress is monitored throughout care to guide adjustments in the treatment plan.

Many patients report noticeable changes during the course of care, though response varies based on individual factors.

Step 4 — Lab Retesting and Follow-Up Care

At the conclusion of the initial 6-week protocol, laboratory testing may be repeated to assess changes in alpha-gal IgE levels and overall immune response trends.

Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes and include:

  • Clinical reassessment

  • Review of symptoms and dietary tolerance

  • Updated care planning

  • Additional acupuncture as needed

Care does not end after the initial protocol—ongoing support is individualized based on patient response.

Clinical Milestones and Long-Term Management

In some patients, alpha-gal IgE levels may decrease over time with consistent management and avoidance of ongoing triggers. When appropriate, dietary reintroduction is approached cautiously and only under clinical guidance.

Each case is managed individually, and progression varies significantly between patients

A Note On Our Approach

“We have seen a significant increase in Alpha-Gal cases in our community, including patients who travel from surrounding areas seeking more structured evaluation and care. Our focus is to provide a clear, individualized approach that supports patients beyond avoidance-based management.”
